Community and Belonging

Our community and belonging initiative at FG+SC offers a variety of identity-affirming, interactive, and student-centered events designed to foster interpersonal connection, cultural validation, and a sense of belonging. Through creative, social, and critical dialogue-based activities, students from first-generation, transfer, undocumented, and former foster youth backgrounds build community with peers, staff, and campus partners. We intentionally incorporate craft-based activities as a form of learning and connection, allowing students to explore something new while engaging with others in a relaxed and welcoming environment.

These events have proven to be some of our most impactful, as they create meaningful opportunities for students to build relationships and feel a strong sense of belonging. Events are crafted to be low-barrier, fun, and meaningful, encouraging engagement with the center and reinforcing that students matter at USC.

Heartfelt Creations

FG+SC hosted a Valentine’s Day celebration where students created pipe cleaner flower bouquets and custom keychains while enjoying food and a movie.
